Kirsten at the age of 5 followed in her Dad’s (Charlie Lindsay 6th Dan) footsteps and joined his club Holytown Karate.

Kirsten progressed through both the junior and Kyu grades and at the age of 16 she achieved her 1st Dan Black belt. In 2021 Kirsten was awarded the rank of 6th Dan. Kirsten is now also an Instructor at Holytown Karate as well as Shotts Karate Club.

At the age of 17 Kirsten was selected for the Scotland Squad for Kata. Kirsten won many Scottish Titles and had a very successful career in the Squad. Kirsten retired from competition to concentrate establishing Calderbank Karate Club. As well as concentrating on her club Kirsten moved into the refereeing side of karate.

She is now the highest qualified Female Referee in all styles of Karate holding the rank of European Referee A. 

Kirsten was appointed as Director of Refereeing for the Scottish Karate Governing Body in March 2015. Kirsten sits on the board of Driectors with 7 other Directors and works with Sports scotland to ensure Karate in Scotland moves from strength to strentgth. 

In 2018 Kirsten was inducted into North Lanarkshire's Sporting Hall of Fame. You can find Kirsten's bio and photograph hanging in the Ravenscraig Sports Centre. Kirsten is a real driving force in Scottish Karate so it was fantastic to see her efforts being recognised. 

On the 21st February 2020 Kirsten was also appointed as vice chair of the Scottish Karate Federation.
